ESIS is the Education and School Improvement Service that serves four local education authorities and their schools in the South Wales valleys.
Established in 1996, ESIS is a joint working arrangement between the county borough councils of Bridgend, Caerphilly, Merthyr Tydfil and Rhondda Cynon Taf. ESIS serves approximately 350 schools and over 7,000 teachers with training, consultancy and inspection services in support of local authority school improvement programmes.
Through its unique cooperative working, ESIS provides a comprehensive service that covers all curriculum areas and all phases from early years to post-16. It draws on expertise from management teams, advisers, associate advisers, the Athrawon Bro team, current teachers and headteachers and external educationalists.
ESIS also operates The Conference Centre, a state-of-the-art meeting and conference venue on the outskirts of Cardiff available for hire to private businesses and public sector organisations.
