What was the focus for improvement?
• Develop pupils’ confidence in asking and answering questions
• Improve pupils’ self esteem
• Focus on showing pupils how to learn - the process of learning rather than what to learn
• Pupils to take responsibility for their own learning
• Improve pupils personal and social skills - working collaboratively
What did we do?
Integrated a range of thinking strategies into our teaching
What evidence have we collected to demonstrate improvements?
Pupils’ work
Listening to Learners
What were the outcomes?
• Pupils were motivated in attempting the various tasks
• The children thought the activities were great fun
• Beginning to respect other people’s viewpoints if they differ from their own
• Starting to take responsibility for their own learning, starting to think about what they need to do to learn, they are ‘learning to learn’.
• Pupils’ self confidence improved in voicing their opinions. They are starting to discuss their work and will often ask ‘Do you want me to tell you what I think?
What have we learnt about teaching practice and pupils learning?
• Skills learnt are lifelong skills
• Good revision tool to test children’s understanding of an activity
What we aim to do next
• Continue to implement a range of thinking strategies across the whole curriculum
