Viewpoint Training Pack 2009

All children in years 4, 5 and 6 have completed an online confidential questionnaire about bullying and relationships in school. The findings were very interesting but not surprising. As you see from the enclosed graphs most children feel that Nottage is a happy school, but the written comments indicate that most problems occur in the playground. Unfortunately there was no space for children to show whether this was at playtime or lunchtime.

We will arrange training for the lunchtime supervisors and review and adapt the 'In the Zone' project to meet the specific needs of Nottage School. We will also teach the children some traditional playground games (utilising the expertise of others during our Citizenship Week) and use older pupils to organise and work with younger children. We have reviewed the prefect system and management of pupil traffic around the doors in the entrance to Key Stage 2 from the Junior yard. Many issues are also caused by older girls who do not wish to play football and would rather stay inside the building as they are bored without activities in the yard. Providing them with purposeful activities will limit areas of conflict.

Examining the data will give all of us an opportunity to consider what is effective and what needs to be changed. We also intend to survey years 4, 5 and 6 in our cluster.

The Viewpoint survey can be repeated in Spring 2010 to measure improvements.

We have divided our proposals into two separate schemes; the first will be ongoing and developed during the year, the second will be a separate strategy that will involve the whole school over two weeks. The first week will involve planning, preparation and introductory activities, followed by the second Citizenship Week which will be evaluated and revised as an annual event.
