• More effective reasoning skills evident in pupils’ responses.
• Improvement in pupils’ ability to compare and contrast.

What evidence have we collected to demonstrate improvements?
• Classroom observation of group work
• Discussion with pupils

What have we learnt about teaching practice and pupils learning?
• The strategies implemented offer different ways to develop pupils’ thinking process. It has provided further opportunities for pupils to express ideas and work collaboratively. The pupils have had more experiences to think independently and to provide and discuss their reasons.
• As a teacher I need to be prepared to go with the children rather than having a pre-conceived idea of how it should be.
• More opportunities need to be planned for the children to work independently, trying things out for themselves and discussing their thoughts.
• The strategies implemented have supported pupils to begin to develop more effective reasoning skills to support their thinking and has improved their ability to compare and contrast.
• Pupils have developed more confidence in participating orally in class and groups.
• Pupils learn more when they are involved in the decision making process. They show more interest when it becomes ‘their’ project.

What we aim to do next
• Further develop opportunities to develop pupils’ reasoning skills.
• Implement strategies to encourage the improvement of pupils’ organisational skills, particularly listening to each other.
• Encourage the use of critical thinking activities throughout the school.
