1. What was the focus for improvement?
 

To develop an holistic approach to Emotional Intelligence (EI) and Thinking Skills

2. What did we do?

  • Staff trained in EI, TALK and Problem Solving
  • Questionnaire from EI T2L pack used to inform staff discussion to identify good practice and ares for development
  • New schemes of work linked to PSED
  • Discussion and questionnaires with pupil
  • EI set as a whole school taget in school development plan


3. What were the outcomes?

  • All classes use strategies to promote EI
  • A range of strategies are in place including reward stickers, mascots, displays and house points
  • EI is promoted through planned activities and classroom based routines
  • All taechers use a comination of approaches:specific lessons on EI and /or an holistic approach


4. What evidence have we collected to demonstrate improvements?

  • Display
  • Portfolios of pupils' work on EI and thinking skills
  • Listening to learners
  • Photographs


5. What have we learnt about teaching practice and pupils learning?

  • The strategies put in place are having an impact on the pupils
  • Pupils are  more focused and aware of their own feelings
  • Pupils are able to discuss feelings and are motivated
  • Pupils respond well to the rewards system and are more confident
  • Promotion of EI is evident in termly and fortnightly planning
  • EI is promoted in classrooms through stimulating displays and routines.

6. What we aim to do next

  • Listen to learners' opinions about EI by carrying out questionnaires- possibly PASS
  • Use a cross curricular approach to extend the experience beyond PSE and language and literacy
  • Hold staff meetings to discuss strategies and share good practice
  • Staff to attend EI courses
  • Regularly use the house point system on a whole school level
