Development of pupils’ problem solving skills

What did we do?
Use was made of a mystery problem solving strategy to improve pupils’ problem solving and decision making skills

What evidence have we collected to demonstrate improvements?
• Pupils’ work
• Listening to Learners

What were the outcomes?
• The sorting and categorisation allows the children to read and become familiar with the facts in the mystery. They can also look at how other groups have sorted out their cards and discuss possible differences and similarities
• The children retained a lot of the information
• The children were engaged in a meaningful speaking and listening exercise
• It was an excellent activity for categorisation and sequencing
• The children enjoyed the activity

What have we learnt about teaching practice and pupils learning?
• Active involvement of all pupils leads to more effective learning

What we aim to do next
Continue to implement a range of thinking strategies across the whole curriculum
