This is a sample of GCSE units from Ysgol Gyfun Gartholwg in Rhondda Cynon Taf. Students responded to two coursework briefs, Unit One being Sea Creatures and Unit Two, Containers. The Sea Creatures unit was instigated by a visit to see the Blascka Glass specimens in the National Museum of Wales in Cardiff. Students were asked to produce a 3D outcome based on their investigations of sea creatures. Students produced detailed observational studies and experimented with a variety of materials and techniques. For contextual references students investigated the work of Blascka and Ernst Haeckel. In addition to these contextual sources the sculptures and forms of Sarah Parker Eaton and Louise Hibbert were also studied.
