Events >> ESDGC Conference for Foundation Phase April 2010

A conference for 40 pupils in the Foundation Phase from Bridgend Schools took place at Pontycymmer Nursey School on Wednesday 21st April.

Workshops  included Working with Willow, Bug Hunting, Global Rhythm born out of Africa, Growing vegetables from seed, Making Briquettes from recycled newspaper, Dinosaurs and all that Rubbish, Sustainable Energy, A Day in the life of a Child from Uganda and Fruit Tasting. Displays and freebies were available from Fair Trade Schools and County Supplies.

The day was a huge success with most of the work shops being held outdoors due to the sunny but cold weather!

Evaluations of the event proved that it was a big hit with teachers and pupils.

'I liked playing the drum from a different country.' 'I loved picking up the bugs.' 'I liked recycling the rubbish.' Heol y Cyw Primary

'I enjoyed making those bands and crowns.'  Abercerdin Primary

'I loved squishing the newspaper.' Garth Primary School

Pupils who represented their schools will go back to report on their day to their classes and  share their expertise with everyone. In one school the pupils have already decided to make and sell the recycled paper briquettes to the teachers for summer barbeques.Pupils were all keen to spend more time in each of the workshops and invite the providers to their schools.
