Learning & Teaching >> The Clever Caterpillar

The Clever Caterpillar is an electronic learning log that will hopefully help primary (and possibly secondary) pupils to develop their understanding of scientific enquiry.

The catepillar is based on two separate sources, The Very Hungry Caterpillar fom the children's story by Eric Carle, and the Caterpillar activity from DCELLS Developing Thinking and Assessment fot Learning Programme.

Hopefully the caterpillar graphic will help pupils to focus on the 14 different skills involved in enquiry and to develop their understanding as they modify the descriptions for each skill as their understanding develops progressively.

The learning log pages allow the pupil to focus further on each skill separately, developing their understanding over time as they add a description of what they can do with each skill, a summary of evidence that they can do this and possible next steps in learning. The teacher can also add in some prompts for further development.

If you do try the caterpillar, then let me know what you think. Pleqase contact mike.tibbott@esis.org.uk
