The Welsh Assembly Government has published guidance for schools on Information and Communication Technology at Key Stage 4.
The document recommends that schools should provide an opportunity for all learners to develop and apply their ICT skills during 14 – 16, and, where appropriate, for learners to have those skills recognised during Key Stage 4 by an accredited qualification.
The document explains that ICT is a rapidly changing subject area and this should be reflected in developments to ensure that learners in Wales have access to ICT courses and qualifications that are fit for the twenty-first century.
There are a series of case studies that describe provision in six schools and that cover a wide range of qualifications.
The document lists a range of specialist ICT courses including:
• BTEC
• CLAiT
• DiDA
• Digital Cre80r
• ECDL
• GCSE (Full and short course)
• OCR Nationals
• Diploma Principal Learning
