In Science, pupils need to develop their ideas about how and why things happen. Teachers can help pupils to think better by using 'Big Questions'. These questions are often ambiguous, so different pupils might provide a range of answers having interpreted the question differently. When pupils discuss their answers and the reasons for giving them, they often undergo metacognition.
